History
Similar to his Earth-616 counterpart, the Kingpin of Crime, el Alfiler was a criminal, an enemy of el Hombre Araña. He went to jail because of him, but when the time came he was no longer in prison.[2]
The supervillain el Buitre contacted el Alfiler and two other enemies of el Hombre Araña, to offer them to form an alliance to avenge his affront by attacking el Hombre Araña all together; el Alfiler and the others agreed. El Buitre convinced a movie production company to make a movie about el Hombre Araña, and el Hombre Araña to star in it without revealing his identity. El Buitre convinced the production company and el Hombre Araña that they would use actors to play the villains el Hombre Araña was going to fight; but in reality el Buitre planned to use the Alifler and the other real villains, convinced that a group superior in number would defeat el Hombre Araña. Filming began in a deserted area, but el Hombre Araña's spider-sense warned him of real danger and allowed him to be on his guard. El Alfiler was the first to attack el Hombre Araña and, although the hero dodged the punch (surprising el Alfiler by his great agility), he was snared by another criminal's lasso. However, the group of villains surrounded el Hombre Araña, preventing him from tipping off the film's director. Although el Hombre Araña broke an enemy's lasso, el Alfiler landed a good punch as the last criminal grabbed onto him, thus initiating a group beatdown. El Hombre Araña managed to slip away and raise a cloud of dust to momentarily blind el Alfiler and the others, and flee into a cave. The villains followed him there and, once inside, they blocked the exit; but, within the dark walls, el Hombre Araña had the upper hand and captured two of his enemies in his web, before fighting el Alfiler. Due to Spider-Man's great speed, el Alfiler missed his punches. El Buitre escaped from the cave and finally Spider-Man was able to notify the police. El Alfiler was arrested with his two accomplices.[2]
After being defeated, el Alfiler assembled a murderous army of at least four gangsters to aid him in a plot of revenge against el Hombre Araña. Once released from prison, el Alfiler organized his followers and built on an island in the Sargasso Sea a huge robot called el Destructor that he claimed would allow him to bring humanity to its knees; supposedly, after killing el Hombre Araña, el Alfiler would start a plan to destroy humanity. A month after this, the superhero Diabólico discovered el Alfiler's plan and stole a miniature sonic key that could supposedly control el Destructor, though Diabólico did not know how to use it. Diabólico, who knew of el Hombre Araña's secret identity as Peter Parker, warned Parker. In an attempt to protect Parker's girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, Diabólico sent her an anonymous message say that el Alfiler had kidnapped Parker, and only el Hombre Araña could rescue Parker (so el Hombre Araña could focus on fighting el Alfiler without having to lead a double life during that time). Meanwhile, el Alfiler led his increasingly impatient assassin army to his secret base to show them el Destructor and explain his plan.[1]
El Alfiler sent his minions, armed with guns, to attack el Hombre Araña in New York City. El Hombre Araña defeated the criminals and handed them over to the police for arrest, and was then approached by Stacy, who asked him to rescue Parker "and take her with him." Against her better judgment, el Hombre Araña agreed. El Alfiler then unleashed el Destructor to attack New York City, destroying buildings and facilities like a force of nature. El Hombre Araña somehow found out where el Alfiler's lair was and traveled there by car, though el Alfiler's guards destroyed the vehicle en route. When el Destructor returned to that base, el Hombre Araña fought it and, with Stacy's help, figured out how to use the sonic key to send their own emotions to the creature, thereby destroying it. El Hombre Araña was unaware that el Alfiler had left hidden cameras outside his base and, having seen the duel, had found out that el Hombre Araña loved this woman, so he decided to use her in a later plan against el Hombre Araña.[1]Attributes
Powers
Abilities
A proficient melée fighter, el Alfiler could move with amazing speed for a man his mass (although he was still amazed by el Hombre Araña's superhuman agility). El Alfiler could fight one-on-one, but was also good coordinating his attacks with allies.[2]
El Alfiler was a good criminal leader, coordinating other people.[1] Sometimes, el Alfiler agreed to be a minion himself for another supervillain and obey orders.[2] He seems to have technical skills to build robots and to operate security technology.[1]Paraphernalia
Equipment
El Alfiler wore a suit with a pin on his tie.[2] Sometimes, he held a cane in his hand.[1]
El Alfiler smoke cigarettes with a long mouthpiece, but not while fighting.[2]Notes
- Kingpin's name was translated to Spanish as "el Alfiler", which means "the Pin", apparently a reference to the pin in his tie.
- El Alfiler may be more scientifically-minded that his Earth-616 counterpart; he was seen in "his" laboratory, and no explanation was given about the origin of the giant robot Destructor, except that el Alfiler was behind it.[1]
- El Alfiler may also be far less subtle and more megalomaniac than his Earth-616 counterpart: In Amazing Spider-Man (MX) #173, el Hombre Araña described el Alfiler and Destructor as the two deadliest things on Earth; and Diabólico claimed that el Alfiler would destroy humankind after defeating el Hombre Araña.
- The headquarters of el Alfiler are unclear. He seems to have a base in the Sargasso Sea, which he can reach in a shore boat from New York City. Soon afterward, el Hombre Araña goes to el Alfiler's base by car, apparently a second lair he may have had near New York City. The laboratory's location is unclear.
- In Amazing Spider-Man (MX) #149, el Alfiler agreed to be mere bruiser working for el Buitre, which would be out of character for his Earth-616 counterpart.
