—Professor XThis mansion is still a school, and I consider all those who live under its roof students. Even you still have something to learn. If not from me... then, perhaps, from Kitty.

Synopsis for "The Buddy System"
Wolverine joins Kitty and Professor X and Professor X tells them that Cerebro has detected a large presence of new mutants in West Virginia. At the insistence of Professor X, Wolverine reluctantly takes Kitty on the mission. Kitty tries to strike up a conversation while they travel on the X-Men Blackbird, but Wolverine resists. When they finally land at the site, Wolverine tries locking Kitty in the jet, but she simply phases out. Realizing he has no choice, Wolverine lets Kitty tag along.
The two mutants walk along the city streets and Kitty uses a small device connected to Cerebro to locate their mutants. A mob of angry anti-mutant citizens attack them, but Wolverine evades them and escapes into a local market with Kitty. The angry mob invades the marketplace and surrounds the two "muties". Fed up with these anti-mutant protesters, Wolverine charges at them with his claws withdrawn.
Kitty panics and phases out of the building, running until she reaches a vandalized house with anti-mutant graffiti. Kitty phases inside the house and concludes from some old photos that the town welcomed the mutant, Michelle, until something went horribly wrong. Noting that the town was not the problem, Kitty runs back to the market place holding the mutant's sweater. She finds Wolverine terrorizing the anti-mutant citizens and tells him to stop. Still angry, Wolverine tries attacking Kitty until she explains the situation and calms down.
Using the scent from the jacket, Wolverine tracks down Michelle and finds her hiding in the woods. Michelle asks them if they got her distress signal. Kitty deduces that Michelle's mutant power is to project her emotions into others, causing everyone in town to become just as distressed as she was. Wolverine "compliments" Kitty on her first mission by saying that the "[has] seen worse."
However, as soon as they get back to the town, Kitty overhears Wolverine arguing with Professor X. Wolverine says that Professor X knew that Michelle could project her emotions and possibly send him on one of his "animal rages". Professor X counters that his fear of his animal rages is greater than the threat they pose and that his mission with Kitty could help tame this fear. Kitty finishes her diary by saying that this is the first time she feels like she belongs at Xavier's School. Wolverine asks her if she wants to learn how to pop wheelies on a motorcross bike without using a helmet. Kitty enthusiastically agrees.Appearing in "Surprise!!"

Synopsis for "Surprise!!"
Next, Kitty starts to asks Nightcrawler, but gives up and phases into the next room to meet Wolverine, who is writing a letter for Mariko Yashida. When Pryde starts to ask for Wolverine's help, he says no even before she can say what it is.
Kitty and the X-Men throw a surprise birthday party for Wolverine.
From files hacked from Professor X's computer encryptions, Kitty learns that Wolverine's birthday is drawing near. She e-mails Mariko and the X-Men throw Wolverine a surprise birthday party. That night at Tribeca, Kitty shows Wolverine and Mariko off at a Japanese restaurant. Sabretooth trips Kitty and helps her up, asking if she was just with Wolverine.
While "Ninja" prepare to serve Logan and Mariko food, Mariko steps out of their room to take a phone call. Wolverine smells Sabretooth in the next room and confronts him. Sabretooth taunts Wolverine, saying he has Kitty captive. Before running off, Sabretooth stuffs some wasabi into Wolverine's nostrils, making him effectively lose his enhanced sense of smell.
Wolverine searches for Sabretooth and first attacks a wooden ninja prop. Wolverine hears Sabretooth's voice and thinks he sees his outline, but it turns out to be another one of Sabretooth's dummies with a radio. On the radio, Sabretooth taunts Wolverine that he also has Mariko. Sabretooth surprises Wolverine by emerging from the floor boards. Kitty wakes up to find herself in a laundry bag. She easily phases out and learns that Wolverine is fighting with someone in the kitchen.
There, Sabretooth rips the oven out of the wall and throws it at Wolverine, creating a gas leak. Sabretooth pins Wolverine to the wall and gives him the choice between him killing Kitty or Mariko. Wolverine "chooses" Kitty, but Sabretooth finds she has escaped and is now holding a lighter to the gas leak. Kitty tells Wolverine to leave, and Sabretooth, thinking Kitty is bluffing, starts to attack the teenager. Kitty ignites the gas leak, making the kitchen explode, and safely phases out.
Wolverine tells Kitty the he would appreciate that she would not mention the Sabretooth attack to the other X-Men. Kitty asks what is in this deal for her, and Wolverine grudgingly agrees to drive her friends to the Dazzler concert.Appearing in "The Littlest Frost Giant"

Synopsis for "The S-Men"
This second group of X-Men is actually an espionage team of shape-shifting alien Skrulls. They were sent to Earth to evaluate the planet's super-powered community and make a threat assessment. The Skrull Praetor instructs them to kill the X-Men in order to cut down on the mutant populace.
The real X-Men meanwhile, switch into their costumed identities to round up the last of the remaining super-monsters. During the battle, a giant insectoid creature renders them unconscious with a ray beam from its antennae. The Skrulls have a change of heart and decide that they do not truly wish to harm these mutants. Having spent time disguised as fellow coffee shop customers, they had gotten to know the team on a somewhat personal level. Instead following their orders, they save the X-Men's lives by tackling the creature on their own.
After the battle, the Skrulls return to the Skrull Empire where they are admonished for defying orders. They don't really care though, as they have come to really enjoy living the life of an X-Man.
