Synopsis for "Northern Dreams"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Wolverine (Vol. 2) #76

Having left the X-Men since Magneto ripped the Adamantium from his body, Logan has been riding up to Canada to pay a visit to his old friend Heather McDonald up in Canada. While riding on the highway to Ottawa, he brakes to avoid running down a fox chasing a rabbit, but ends up being thrown from his bike. The rabbit is killed in the crash and the fox is injured. Logan gets scraped up pretty bad, and notes that his healing factor is still not working as well as it used to. Realizing that the fox is in a world of hurt, Logan watches as some wild dogs run after it to make it's meal. He tries to go after them to save the fox but ultimately loses them in the woods.

Going back out to the highway, he finds three bikers waiting by his downed motorcycle. Thinking they might attack him, Wolverine pops his bone claws, causing him extreme pain and makes him black out. Shocked by what they saw, the bikers decide to help him out and begin checking his pockets for identification.

While in New York City, Ronald Parvenue tells Lady Deathstrike that he's received reports that Logan has been spotted crossing over the Canadian border and suggests that Lady Deathstrike might want to take a limo and go after him in order to extract his Adamantium laced bones.

In Ottawa the next day, Heather Hudson is putting things away when there is a knock on the door. She answers it and finds the bikers that found Logan the night before, with nothing to go on but an address that Logan had in his pocket, the bikers have brought him here out of kindness for a fellow "brother". While down the highway where Wolverine originally wiped out, Lady Deathstrike orders her drive to stop. Getting out, she picks up Logan's scent and tells the drive to keep going. Logan meanwhile is still out of it and is haunted with nightmares of his past: the days when he was a secret agent, his capture and experimentation by the Weapon X program, and lastly he is haunted by the specter of Mariko Yashinda. He wakes up from his nightmare after reliving the memory of having his Adamantium ripped out by Magneto. He is awoken by Heather who tells him he was dropped off on her door two days ago, Logan finds it funny that he's been out for two days, and is still tired.

The next morning, Logan is up shaving and telling Heather what happened to him, and remarks how when he cuts himself shaving he bleeds like a normal man instead of his healing factor closing up the wound quickly. When Heather asks him if it's so bad to be almost a normal person now, he wonders if he should start having a normal life now... however much is left of it. Lady Deathstrike has followed Logan's scent to the bikers that saved him earlier. Finding them in a bar, she changes into her costume and confronts them for the location of Logan. When they try to attack her, she easily kills some of them and begins demanding answers from the survivors.

Back at Heathers place, Wolverine has Heather use her government connections via her membership in Alpha Flight to begin looking into information about his past. Cross referencing information on Hines brings up a paper on immunology involving metal grafting, immune systems and body regeneration. This makes Logan realize that the Adamantium in his body helped regulate his healing factor and the only person who could shed some insight on why his healing factor is greatly reduced is dead and gone. Their research is interrupted when Puck enters the room to tell them that a suspicious looking limo has been circling the neighborhood all day. Before Logan and Puck can go investigate, Lady Deathstrike suddenly bursts through the window.

Synopsis for "The Lady Strikes"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Wolverine (Vol. 2) #77

Continued from last issue...

Logan's visit to Heather Hudson is interrupted by the arrival of Lady Deathstrike, who has come hunting down Logan again in order to extract his Adamantium laced bones, completely unaware that Logan no longer possesses them since Magneto ripped it out of his body a short time ago. He attack sends both her and Logan crashing through Heather's house and sending Puck and Heather sprawling. Ending up in the kitchen, Logan turns on the oven and sure enough Lady Deathstrike's cybernetics set off the gas in side, causing an explosion sending them both crashing down into the basement.

As the battle rages on, Ronald Parvenue watches amusingly from his car, while inside the house Heather changes into her Vindicator outfit and rushes downstairs with Puck to help Logan out against Lady Deathstrike. As the battle rages on, Parvenue convinces a woman to not call the authorities. While down below, Puck and Vindicator tangle with Lady Deathstrike. When she mentions that she has come to take Wolverine's Adamantium claws, Wolverine pops his claws to show her that he no longer has any Adamantium left in her body.

Upon closer examination and getting an explanation of Wolverine's recent run in with Magneto that saw him stripped of his Adamantium bones, Lady Deathstrike notes that Wolverine is still bleeding when he pulls his claws back in. He confirms to her that his healing factor is not working so well either. Shocked by this revelation, Lady Deathstrike actually feels a moment of sympathy for Logan's current ordeal. However, Logan isn't finished yet, he angrily tells her off for wasting her life and becoming a cyborg-freak in order to get revenge only to have nothing to show for it. He has her vow that her vendetta against him is over now that she has no reason to go after him anymore or he swears he will fight back in spades. Removing her helmet, Lady Deathstrike agrees and flees, vowing that while she has been cheated out of her humanity, family heritage and revenge, she has not lost her honor and departs. With Lady Deathstrike gone, Wolverine apologizes for bringing his fight to her home, Heather however simply brushes it off by saying she's always wanted to redecorate.

As Deathstrike and Parvenue are driving back to New York, Lady Deathstrike explains what happened at the Hudson house and that for now her vendetta against Wolverine is over. When she tries to explain him why they are confronted by Cylla and Bloodscream, both of whom have come to get the right from Lady Deathstrike to pursue their own vendetta against Wolverine. Not caring one way or the other she allows them to do so and they rush off into the night to track down their hated enemy. Logan meanwhile says his goodbyes to Heather and Puck, giving Heather a bunch of money to help her repairs before riding off into the night. The following morning Logan stops to have a meal at a diner and leaves, completely unaware that Bloodscream and Cylla are closing the gap between them and are looking for revenge.

Synopsis for "...Something Wicked This Way Comes!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
X-Men #139

The X-Men participate in a grueling session in the Danger Room. As Angel, Colossus, Storm and Nightcrawler go through their exercises, Professor X and Kitty Pryde witness the spectacle from the room’s monitoring station. Kitty is terrified to see the degree of danger that she may one day have to face. As the session ends, the team regroups and they decide to officially welcome Kitty to the team. When Nightcrawler appears in the room she is instinctively frightened by his appearance and feels bad for acting that way. When the Professor decides it's time that Kitty take up a code name, he suggests the name Ariel. She doesn't like it and chooses Sprite instead. When Nightcrawler inquires why Wolverine changed his costume, he replies that he just felt like it. Wolverine approaches the Professor and asks if he can go up to Canada and straighten out things with the Canadian government. The Professor agrees that this is a good idea and Nightcrawler asks to go along, hoping to meet Aurora again.

Storm and Kitty leave the mansion for the streets of Salem Center. Ororo brings her to a dance studio owned by famed dance instructor, Stevie Hunter. Kitty is excited to begin taking classes, and feels that the physical exercise will help her balance out all of the mental challenges that the school might throw at her.

Later, Wolverine and Nightcrawler arrive in Canada. They meet with Heather McNeil Hudson, wife to Department H's James Hudson, formerly known as Weapon Alpha. Now calling himself Vindicator, James arrives shortly after and prepares to settle affairs with Wolverine. Their past animosity has to be tabled however, as more pressing matters are brought to the forefront.

In Ottawa, Ontario, the capital of Canada, Heather Hudson comes home to find intruders in her home. Grabbing a broom she gets the drop on them, and is surprised to see that it is Wolverine. When she calls Wolverine 'Logan', Nightcrawler asks why Wolverine never told anyone his real name. Wolverine comments that nobody bothered asking. When Logan gets down to business, he asks Heather where James is, and she tells him that he's up in the Hudson Bay area investigating something with Alpha Flight on behalf of Department H.

Up in Hudson Bay, Vindicator returns to the cabin where Alpha Flight has stationed themselves on this mission. With Aurora, Northstar, and Sasquatch on another mission[1], James only has Shaman and Snowbird with him. As they go over the maps of the area, Shaman's mystical alarms go off and Alpha Flight prepares for an attack. It turns out to be only Wolverine and Nightcrawler who offer their help. Vindicator is happy to see Logan and explains that they are out searching for a family that was attacked by the Wendigo. While the son managed to escape the father was killed, but the mother and her baby child might still be alive in the wilderness. Wolverine recalls his previous encounter with Wendigo[2][3] and believes that if anyone can stop that beast it's him.

Wolverine sends Nightcrawler out to their jeep to get their gear. As the sun sets, Nightcrawler's thoughts think about how Jean Grey had died in battle[4] and curses the fates for being so cruel. Hearing something coming up behind him fast, Nightcrawler turns and is horrified to find that the Wendigo has come up behind him.
