Synopsis for "Ghosts"
Archangel takes on Caliban; Mole spies on Iceman and Opal; Scott proposes to Jean.
Notes
- The issue begins immediate after the end of X-Factor #52. Jean and Scott are wearing evening clothes from their double date with Beast and Trish Tilby, and Bobby is still babysitting Christopher.
- Jean rejects Scott's proposal. He previously proposed to her (actually the Phoenix Force) in X-Men #136, but "Jean" died in X-Men #137. Scott proposed to Madelyne Pryor in Uncanny X-Men #174, and they married in Uncanny X-Men #175.
- Jean absorbed Madelyne and "Jean"'s memories in X-Factor #38. She does not know whether her love for Scott is her own or the others'. Beyond rejecting his new proposal, Jean feeling trapped by the memories in a predestined life causes arguments with Scott, for example in X-Factor Annual #5.
