Synopsis for "Blood Economics"
On a rainy night, a strike team breaks into the off-shore distribution center of Xavier Pharmaxeuticals and kills the Madrox dupe guarding the location.
Later, Marvel Girl, Beast, and Sage investigate the aftermath of the attack. Jean uses her powers to project a psionic image of the culprits based on the memories of the murdered dupe, which Madrox was able to reabsorb before it died. Beast notes that these mercenaries are not cybernetically enhanced like those who attacked Krakoa. Sage deduces based on the weather and air traffic from the night of the raid that the thieves’ helicopter originated from a ship anchored nearby. Sage reviews the computer system and determines that the mercs stole money from several of Xavier’s holdings in addition to petals used to manufacture Krakoan medicine. Fortunately for Xavier, his finances are vast and diversified enough that his total wealth remains “incalculable”.
Charles Xavier calls a meeting of the Quiet Council to discuss the mutant response to the recent string of attacks. He uses the story of Hercules and Athena as an allegory to assert that Krakoa needs both strength and intelligence to combat the threat posed to them. Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister both want to retaliate violently against the humans, but Marvel Girl tells them the solution isn’t that simple. She says they shouldn’t underestimate what their enemy is capable of. The Council agrees that X-Force will act as the equivalent of Krakoa’s C.I.A., operating with both an intelligence apparatus and a strike team as needed. Jean says now that they have their intelligence, it’s time to ready their soldiers.
Wolverine, Domino, and Kid Omega visit Forge in the Armory. Forge gives Domino an arm-mounted gauntlet made of Krakoan bio-organics that can morph into any weapon she can imagine. After Forge shows Wolverine the vat of adamantium they’ll use whenever Logan needs to be resurrected, Sage radios the team and tells them there’s another robbery in progress. X-Force heads to the gate hub to intervene.
As the team races to the hub, Beast tells them the target this time is Greenspace, an Xavier-owned clean energy facility in San Francisco. Hank says to expect heavy firepower, and that the facility is staffed by humans who can’t be resurrected if they die. Wolverine and Quentin are partially through the gate when the San Francisco side of the portal is suddenly detonated. Domino passes through harmlessly and finds herself still on Krakoa. Wolverine and Kid Omega fare far worse; the top half of Logan’s body and Quentin’s severed head land on the floor of Greenspace, right at the mercenaries’ feet.
