Synopsis for "The Hunted Below"

Threnody, fleeing from Sinister's cloned Marauders in the sewers beneath Paris, regrets trying to escape Sinister's service. She had hoped to enlist Nate Grey's help but now is pursued by the Marauders. Above, Nate Grey struggles with trust issues, questioning the motives of those around him. He remembers the people he met recently (Rogue, Moira MacTaggert, and Madelyne Pryor) while grappling with his own dark thoughts.

An explosion in the sewers draws Nate's attention, and he discovers Threnody being pursued a group of mutants. Learning that Sinister is alive on this world, Nate confronts the Marauders and demands Sinister's whereabouts. A battle ensues, with Nate showcasing his telekinetic powers, but Threnody decides to better lead Nate away from the conflict.

In a conversation, Threnody explains her history with Sinister, revealing how he used her to locate mutants suffering from the Legacy Virus. Sinister "fixed" her, and she grew to despise him. Now, she seeks to break free from his control. Nate questions her loyalty, and Threnody discloses her knowledge of him and her efforts to keep the X-Man hidden from Sinister.

As the Marauders regroup, Nate uses his powers to eliminate Scrambler and Prism. Threnody and Nate continue their escape, discussing Sinister's relentless pursuit. The Marauders, undeterred, track them down. Nate employs telepathic illusions and tactics to confuse and defeat the Marauders, leaving only Riptide alive with a psychic implant to erase his memory.

Later, Cable, tracking Nate, discovers the aftermath of the battle and resolves to find him for the sake the X-Men and the world.

Trivia

  • Nate used his powers to manipulate the Marauders, who killed each other. The only survivor was Riptide.
