Synopsis for "Salvage (Part 4)"

Rogue follows the Danger Room construct of Cody Robbins into a makeshift cave and emerges in a row of funhouse mirrors, where she sees past versions of herself, as well as Carol Danvers, reflected back at her. Suddenly, a monstrous, decaying version of Carol attacks Rogue and throws her through a mirror, down to another level of the simulation.

Here, she sees Magneto, who tells her that the nature of her powers - which cause her to constantly have to share herself with other personalities - can only ever lead to loneliness. The zombified Ms. Marvel then attacks again, shifting to the forms of Cody and Mystique and berating Rogue for stealing all of their lives from them. Rogue reveals she’s learned to share her consciousness with Mystique, then lets her mother take over and uses her ruthlessness to win the fight. Magneto congratulates her and tells her that she can be free if she continues forward to the construct of the Xavier Academy.

Meanwhile, in the construct of the Danger Room within the Xavier Academy, Charles Xavier, Gambit, and their uneasy Shi’ar pirate allies stand beneath a giant, unresponsive, scared Danger. Xavier explains that this is a projection of how Danger sees herself without her deactivated higher functions - as “a sullen slave”. Xavier believes that in order to end the simulations and find Rogue, he’ll need to access Danger’s operating systems through a telepathic back door and initiate her self-repair functions.

Within Danger’s operating system, Xavier makes contact with the A.I.’s higher functions. Xavier posits that Danger wants to kill him; Danger says it’s not that simple. She reveals that she intended to force Rogue to completely absorb Xavier’s powers and consciousness permanently as revenge for imprisoning Danger all those years. Xavier says he worked hard to find a way to extract her consciousness from the Danger Room program, but hesitated because he was afraid she would kill the X-Men once she was free. He says he’s come to rectify that mistake.

Xavier returns and commands Danger to “end program”. The constructs blink away and they find themselves back in Maynards Plains, with a “sleeping” Danger on the ground in front of them. Xavier begins to authorize Danger to run a program that will free her consciousness once more, but the Shi’ar pirates turn on Charles and Gambit, intent on taking Danger to sell and collecting the bounty Emperor Vulcan of the Shi’ar put out on Xavier. Gambit fights back but is overwhelmed. Just as crew member Horse is about to land the killing blow, Rogue arrives in a flash of light to stop him.
