Synopsis for "Second Coming, Chapter One"
In a flash of light, Cable and Hope Summers arrive in the present day amidst the ruins of the X-Mansion in Westchester. Before they can get their bearings, however, several members of The Right decked out in smile-faced armor arrive and open fire. Cable and Hope make quick work of them and hit the road, but they are followed closely by three vans full of Sapien League goons.
In Utopia, the leadership of the X-Men debrief on the aftermath of Selene's attack and try to come to terms with how quickly the remaining mutant population is dwindling. After the meeting, the Cuckoos alert Cyclops that Cerebra has detected Cable’s psychic signature. Cyclops orders his troops into position: he sends Domino and Vanisher to San Francisco, Namor and Rogue to guard Utopia, and the New Mutants to take flight in the Blackbird.
The “alpha” team of Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Colossus, Psylocke, X-23, Angel, Magik, and Pixie teleport to Westchester. When they arrive, Wolverine catches Cable’s scent and they intercept the Sapien League vans on the highway, wrecking them and allowing Cable and Hope to escape. X-23 and Wolverine pull two men out of the wreckage and interrogate them for information on how they’re tracking Cable. Getting nothing from her prisoner, Laura *snikts* her claws into his brain. Horrified, Nightcrawler begins to suspect Cyclops, Logan, and X know more about the threat they're facing than they’re saying.
In Washington, D.C., the Human Council briefs Bastion on the resources and manpower at their disposal. Bastion orders them to kill the "mutant messiah".
