History
As time passed on Krakoa, one amongst their youngest generation, Curse, fell more and more of an outcast due to her jinx powers. One day, as a sea turtle washed on the shores of Krakoa choking on a plastic bag, Curse used her powers to make Nature Girl an outcast as well and sympathetic towards her, unintentionally sending her on a vengeful journey to make humanity pay for their crimes against the planet.[12] Using one of Krakoa's Gateways, Lin Li traveled to Las Vegas in order to find the ones responsible. She confronted the owner of Owen's Grocery, the brand of the plastic bag, and, after growing disgruntled by his apathy about the loss of animal lives, Lin jabbed the complacent store owner in the neck with a pair of scissors.[2]
The police were called to the scene and sent a trained dog to apprehend her, but, using her powers, Nature Girl tamed and befriended the canine, who also communicated its dissatisfaction with the way the planet was treated by humans. Lin then summoned several creatures of the wild as a distraction, as she made an escape with her new friend, whom she renamed Saoirse.[2]
The two were soon confronted by Wolverine, dispatched by Professor Charles Xavier to bring her home for judgement, but his quarry prepared for this and shacked up with a bear in its adjacent cave, as Logan duked it out with one of nature's toughest denizens. Nature Girl managed to swipe his motorbike and road off to her true destination.[13]
Back at the Krakoan Gate in Las Vegas, Lin tried to convince Saoirse to leave her side and go back home, but she refrained and followed her new leader to the island nation. While ruminating on all she would need to do to get people's attention about the dire situation of the planet, she was met by one of the more internecine residents named Curse, who wanted to join their crusade, possessing a newfound respect for the soft spoken child star.[13]
The three formed X-Men Green, and evaded capture for a long time, during which Lin Li changed a lot, both psychologically (becoming increasingly radical) and physically (losing her hair).[14] Given time, however, Wolverine managed to capture them, and, as expected, they were sentenced to the Pit of Exile. They accepted their fate with no regret, but Cypher, at the request of Krakoa, arranged for them to escape, despite no longer being allowed on the island.[5]
Joined by Sauron, X-Men Green continued to brutally fight for Planet Earth, following encrypted leads left by Pyro in his novels.[6] They found themselves toe to toe with the likes of Namor[15] and Black Panther.[16] After escaping Black Panther, X-Men Green found themselves at the headquarters of Hordeculture, a group of fellow environmental terrorists, and the two groups formed an uneasy alliance.[7]
To better achieve their plans, the team decided to try and release the Armageddon Man, a mutant with the power to cause natural catastrophes. Nature Girl figured her connection with Planet Earth would allow her to control him, since he was basically the embodiment of nature's wrath. And she was right, the two had indeed a connection. The problem was that, by then, Nature Girl had grown increasingly cruel due to Curse's wish and was starting to lose the grasp of reality, causing Armageddon Man to start acting erratic as well. As she and Sauron turned against each other in the middle of a storm caused by Armageddon Man, Curse revealed her part in making Nature Girl become this evil. However, Nature Girl didn't believe her, forcing Curse to use her powers to revert the situation and suffer the consequences of using them for good.[17]
Following Curse's death, Nature Girl and Armageddon Man went into hiding beneath Los Angeles as they began to plot their revenge.[9] To attack Hordeculture, Nature Girl and Armageddon Man sought out Gwen Warren (Spider-Girl) in Salem Center. Promising her acceptance, Nature Girl managed to convince Spider-Girl to join X-Men Green.[18]
The three of them then charged against Hordeculture, whom Nature Girl considered responsible for Curse's death. They were able to do a great deal of damage, but Hordeculture attacked Armageddon Man with the genus compound, which was capable of devolving mutants into base line human. At first, Armageddon Man was almost appreciative, for no longer having the curse of his destructive powers, but Hordeculture shot him with the compound a second time, devolving him into some extinct lemur. With their headquarters starting to collapse, Hordeculture saw a chance to escape and took it, with X-Men Green escaping shortly after as well. Once again forced to lay low for a while, Nature Girl, Gwen and the lemur Armageddon Man retreated to Santo Marco, where they began plotting their next step.[19]Paraphernalia
