Synopsis for "The Phalanx Covenant, Generation Next Part Four: The Currents Shift."
Blink has been ensnared by members of the Phalanx just as she and her fellow Mutants Angelo Espinosa, Monet St. Croix, and Paige Guthrie were trying to escape a decommissioned naval ship, in San Diego Bay, on which they were being held captive. She uses her Mutant power to disrupt the structure of the Phalanx holding her, which enables her to go free. Monet, also known as M, finishes the job and punches the Phalanx into pieces. The group is then confronted by Harvest who tells them that he volunteered to join the Phalanx in order to form a new species that would rise above Mutants on the evolutionary ladder and rid the world of them.[1] And even though his access to the Phalanx Hive has been severed he says that nothing will stop him from achieving his goal.
Unbeknown to Harvest and the young Mutants, Banshee and Everett Thomas are climbing up the side of the ship in order to effect a rescue. Banshee tells Everett that recent disappearances in that area, and information from other X-Men teams about the Phalanx preferring higher locations and large metallic objects, made it likely that this ship would be where they were based.
Elsewhere on the ship, White Queen and Jubilee are scouting around. Emma has managed to telepathically trace where the young Mutants are. The two of them then come across rats that have been assimilated by the Phalanx onboard the ship. Jubilee uses her power to obliterate them and doesn’t feel guilty about it. Emma questions whether that is why she has held back on using her power. Jubilee confirms it after pointing out that she blew up a house in Hong Kong. Emma suggests that, as a way of paying tribute to the Hellions, maybe Emma should start training young Mutants to use their powers much better than she did her fallen charges.[2]
The sound of Jubilee’s power alerts Harvest to the presence of the X-Men. Without warning, Sabretooth, in his usual costume, attacks Harvest. After Sabretooth shreds some of Harvest’s mass, Harvest draws Techno-Organic matter back from previous assimilated victims, making him grow larger. Banshee and Everett make their move and Banshee shatters Harvest with a sonic scream. Banshee is surprised to see Sabretooth has returned after he seemed to have abandoned the group.[3]
Paige introduces herself to Banshee and he notices that she’s been infected by the Transmode Virus.[4] To the surprise of the group, Sabretooth rips at Paige with his claws. Paige then pulls away the layer of skin and Techno-Organic suit infected by the Transmode Virus, leaving her in a metallic form. Paige indicates to the group that this is how her Mutant power works and that she’ll return to her normal skin, minus the virus, in a few hours.
Harvest launches another attack against the group, having recovered from Banshee’s sonic scream. Jubilee and White Queen join the fray, with Jubilee causing a distraction with her powers while Emma communicates telepathically with Sean. She tells him that she’s scanned Harvest and can detect no Human thought patterns. They agree that the first thing they need to do is distract Harvest long enough to get the younger Mutants to safety. Banshee launches himself at Harvest and tells Sabretooth to let loose against their Phalanx enemy.
Blink questions Emma about the fact that Harvest can’t be stopped here and will continue to come after them. Harvest knocks Sabretooth out while Blink continues to highlight the fact that once Harvest eradicates Mutants, he’ll go after Humans next. Despite Blink being told that they don’t have enough power to stop Harvest, she believes she can. She uses her power to cut part of the ship off from the rest, separating the others from her and Harvest. The rest of the group leaps into the water to safety.
Banshee tells Blink to escape as he battles Harvest. She doesn’t listen and uses her power against Harvest. Harvest, the ship, and Blink herself are caught in the large field produced by Clarice. Banshee flies up and tries to reach for Blink. Parts of her body keep blinking out of his reach and she, Harvest, and the ship disappear in the wave she produced. Banshee stops his sonic scream and falls into the water, devastated by not being able to save Clarice. Emma was able to read psychic imprints of both Blink and Harvest and tells the group that Clarice is gone. Everett synchs with Banshee’s power of sonic scream and uses it to fly over and rescue Banshee from drowning. As the group makes it to land, with Paige having reverted to her normal skin, the young Mutants reflect on the sacrifice made by their friend and the fact that they need to make the world a better place against any threats to it.
