Synopsis for "The Million Dollar Angel"
Telling the origin of the X-Men’s Angel...
Our story begins some years ago when a young Warren Worthington III exasperates his parents Kathryn and Warren Jr. by climbing up in a tree to get a closer look at some eggs in a nest. When Warren is scared out of the tree by the owner of the nest, Warren just barely manages to avoid a nasty fall by landing in the Worthington swimming pool. Sequestered to his room to recover, Warren's parents lament over their young son's fascinations with heights of late, the tree being only the most recent of many attempts to climb up on things.
As a teenager, Warren is enlisted in a private boy’s school where he becomes a star athlete, one day while in the change room the other boys make jokes at Warren's expense when they notice his abnormally large shoulder blades. One night Warren wakes up in the middle of the night to find a large feather in his bed. Going to the bathroom to look at his back, Warren finds that a pair of bird-like wings are starting to grow out. Getting bigger each day, Warren at first is impressed by his new wings, but he then realizes that they will mark him as a freak and wonders what he will do. Detecting smoke, Warren realizes that a fire has started and leaves his room to investigate. Trapped on his floor by flames, Warren takes a risk and jumps out of a window to realize his wings actually allow him to fly.
Hearing cries for help, Warren decides to do something to save his fellow students. Rushing to the Drama room, he finds a nightshirt and a wig to conceal his identity. Looking like a Biblical angel, Warren rescues the boys by using a rope to pull them out of the building to safety. When all of the boys are safe, Warren sneaks away and offs his disguise (concealing his wings in the process) and meets up with his classmate’s tales of how a guardian angel saved their lives.

Synopsis for "Where Angels Dare to Tread!"
Continued from last issue...
Having developed a taste for adventure and heroics, Warren Worthington III has relocated to New York City where he has taken up the costumed identity of the Avenging Angel. Armed with a specially made gas gun, Warren goes out on patrol and manages to prevent the Grady Gang from robbing a warehouse by knocking them out with his gas gun and calling the police. When the authorities arrive they find the Grady Gang all knocked out and the Avenging Angel's calling card, a halo painted on a nearby brick wall. However, news of Warren's exploits are discounted as a fabrication as the member of the gang who gave testimony is known to be a pathological liar.
While at Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, young Scott Summers and Bobby Drake are watching the news coverage on television. Bobby finds it fascinating, however Scott is less than convinced in the existence of a winged human. Summoned by Professor Xavier, he sends Scott and Bobby out to investigate as Cyclops and Iceman.
The following night, the Avenging Angel is out on another patrol when he witnesses a robbery happening at the Atomic Institute. Attacking two crooks who are stealing a strange cylinder, Warren douses them with gas, however a stray bullet knocks Warren's gas gun out of his hand. Swooping down to recover his weapon and relinquish the cylinder from the crooks, Warren gets a whiff of his own gas mixture. Deciding to return the cylinder to the Atomic Institute the next day, Warren then returns to his apartment.
He finds Cyclops and Iceman waiting for him, who reveal to the Avenging Angel that he is a mutant and would like him to join their group, the X-Men. Surprised to find the two other mutants there, Warren tells them that he operates as a loner and tells them that anyone attempting to push him around will get pushed back…and hard!

Synopsis for "The Flying A-Bomb!"
Continued from last issue...
Cyclops and Iceman's attempt to recruit the Avenging Angel into the X-Men has hit a snag when the egotistical loner suddenly attacks them in his apartment. As the two young mutants try to stop the fight, the Professor monitors the situation with his mental powers. Although the two X-Men have ranged mutant abilities, they are no match for Warren's fighting skill. Attempting to seek an end to the fight, the Professor telepathically contacts Warren and explains the situation, calming the young mutant down.
However, the Professor also detects another danger, the cylinder of a new radioactive isotope that the Avenging Angel has relinquished from some thieves. Somehow the isotope has become active while being in contact with the Avenging Angel's mutant biology and is about to explode at any moment. Realizing that only extreme cold will stop it, Warren suddenly flies up high into the sky to prevent a potential explosion from harming anyone. In the freezing cold of the upper atmosphere, Warren breaks open the cylinder and the radioactive material is rendered harmless by the cold.
The Avenging Angel blacks out from the cold and lack of oxygen, however revives just in time to pull out of his free fall. Returning to the X-Men, he agrees to meet with the Professor and join their ranks as the Angel.
