Synopsis for "The Cure (Part 2): One Angry Man"
Three hours after Finlay had injected the Vivisector Serum into his bloodstream, he waited for its effects to take place while watching X-Statix finish their mission on television. In order to get angry in hopes of having the serum take effect, he drove through Los Angeles traffic, then went to an expensive restaurant and let Polly order. At the restaurant, she angered him by revealing that she cheated on him with a photographer named Marco while Myles had coffee with his mother before searching for a present for his father. Then, he packed his things at the X-Statix Building before throwing away a photo of Brandon.
Meanwhile, Finlay used the machine that he had previously used to dig into Myles' psychology by projecting images and after using it, he was finally able to transform into the Vivisector. Then, he walked out of his lab and confronted and killed Marco while he was photographing women. The media and X-Statix both believed that the killer was Myles, although their real former teammate actually flew home to New Hampshire for his father's sixtieth birthday celebration. Raju, one of his father's students, approached him and praised his two-thousand word treatise on Emily Dickinson.
The new Vivisector went on a rampage as he felt that "home" (New Hampshire) was calling him. Back in New Hampshire, Myles gave his present, a pen, to his father, although the sixty-year old professor belittled it before they were attacked by the new Vivisector. X-Statix also followed him before realizing that Vivisector was not Myles as the scientist believed that he was the former hero and held the professor in chokehold. Myles intervened and was pinned down by Finlay before the former asked for his father's pen and stabbed the scientist with it. After learning that Finlay had died, he returned the pen to his father before realizing that his powers were returning.
He returned with X-Statix to the HQ and showed them that he could still transform as a condition of rejoining and realized that good feelings caused his transformation. Later, X-Statix attended the first Charity Gala for Distressed Mutants and Brandon attempted to get back with Myles, although the mutant rejected him and called him a failure.
Trivia
- Polly teasingly refers to Finlay as "Superman" in the first page of the story.
- As Finlay was about to kill Professor Alfred, Myles refers to him as "Professor August Alfred."
