History

Melinda Morrison

Xandu was a minor practitioner of magic when he met a woman named Melinda Morrison. They began a relationship, but Melinda was afflicted with mystical energy released in one of Xandu's ceremonies. She was caught between life and death, and Xandu vowed to revive her.[1]

The Wand of Watoomb

In his studies, Xandu learned of the Wand of Watoomb and believed it could save Melinda. When his mesmerized thugs tried to steal the wand from Doctor Strange, they were opposed by Spider-Man as well. He tried to banish Spidey to another dimension, but Spider-Man snagged the Wand with a web-line before tumbling through the portal. When Xandu's thugs returned Spider-Man and the Wand, but Strange was active again by this point and defeated Xandu, supposedly removing his mystical knowledge.[1]

Xandu later returned to seek revenge on Strange and Spider-Man, while still trying to revive Melinda. After he was defeated, Strange offered to help Xandu revive Melinda, but soon learned Melinda was in a lifelike state of death, not a deathlike state of life. Unable to accept Melinda was dead, Xandu went further insane.[2]

Continuing to work on Melinda's revival, Xandu fully restored her body to health, although her mind and soul had still passed on. He tried reanimating Melinda using the soul of the Scarlet Witch. The spirit of Melinda herself appeared to Xandu and tried to convince him to join her in the afterlife, but he rejected the idea. [3]

Xandu later used the Ruby of Domination in a vain attempt to take revenge on Doctor Strange by controlling the Hulk.[4]

Next, Xandu reclaimed the Wand of Watoomb and attempted to merge the Earth Dimension and the Death Dimension to overlap his realm with Melinda's. He was opposed by the Secret Defenders.[5]

Xandu was last seen at the wake for Wilbur Day. The bar was blown up by the Punisher after he poisoned the mourners, leaving Xandu's fate uncertain.[6]
