History
Shang-Chi's life was identical to his Earth-199999 counterpart until 2018, when Janet van Dyne was infected with a virus in the Quantum Realm. She infected her husband Hank Pym when he came to rescue her, resulting in the spread of the virus around the world.[2] During the initial stages of the zombie outbreak in San Francisco, Shang-Chi was bitten on his right arm and began turning into a zombie. Unexpectedly, his father Xu Wenwu arrived with the Ten Rings to his son's rescue. He sacrificed himself by giving the Ten Rings to his son, which stopped the spread of the infection. Shang-Chi and Katy escaped on the Ten Rings helicopters and joined with others survivors including Jimmy Woo and Death Dealer. They formed a band of road warriors, surviving for five years in the brutal post-apocalypse.[1]
They boarded Baron Zemo's floating Raft and were introduced to another group of survivors consisting of Kamala Khan, Blade Knight, Yelena Belova, and Red Guardian. Zemo attempted to feed some of his superhero quests to Namor, but he returned them to the Raft, entering the vessel along with his zombie Talokanil. The heroes held off the zombies long enough to enter Zemo's escape pod, but were pursued by Namor, who killed some survivors before Kamala blew his head off. Afterward, Yelena sacrificed herself to make the escape pod work, and they escaped while she was overwhelmed by the zombies. The remaining survivors soon departed for New Asgard.[1]
Upon arriving at New Asgard, they were greeted by Valkyrie. Once inside, they encountered an emotionally broken Thor and, shortly after, an uninfected Wanda Maximoff who attempted to convince them to help her but they refused. They soon discovered that the food Wanda gave the Asgardians was zombie meat, causing the Asgardians to turn into zombies controlled by Wanda. Losing Jimmy, Alexei, and Death Dealer, the rest have fled aboard the Commodore and took to Earth Orbit while Thor stayed behind to fight Wanda. In space, they found that the Nova Corps had quarantined Earth to prevent the virus from spreading.[3]
The Nova Corps opened fire and destroyed their ship, but before falling to their deaths, they were teleported by the Masters of the Mystic Arts into Kamar-Taj. They teamed up to fight off Wanda's army and prevent her from stealing the power of the Infinity Stones contained by Infinity Hulk. As soon as the heroes emerged from the portals, they engaged off the zombies, but began to get overwhelmed. Zombie Death Dealer and Jimmy Woo attacked Shang-Chi and Katy, managing to completely infect Shang-Chi.[4]Paraphernalia
