History

The origins and early life of Jude the Entropic Man presumably mirror those of his Earth-616 counterpart.

Origins[]

Jude was created by Victor Conrad, who had stolen a Cosmic Cube from Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S.. To Conrad's horror, Jude turned on his creator and killed him. Jude told the Thing and Captain America, who had tried to stop Conrad, that he would only return once mankind begged him for his gift of death, before encasing himself in a giant crystal.[1]

Paradise X[]

Jude remained inert for decades, and the world changed drastically while he slept. The Kree hero Mar-Vell led a crusade to kill Death itself, recruiting heroes both in the lands of the living and the Realm of the Dead. After Mar-Vell succeeded, the living realized that they could no longer die, and those suffering grievous injuries were condemned to live forever in pain.[1]

A group of the world's brightest minds, led by Reed Richards resolved to find a new Death, to allow those in pain to finally die. After being guided by the Thing to Jude's resting place, they managed to awaken Jude by begging for his gift. Just as Jude declared his intentions to bring his gift to humanity, Richards captured him, not trusting Jude to decide who lives and who dies. Richards was unaware however that their ranks had been infiltrated by Mephisto.[1]

Mephisto freed Jude, offering him aid in exchange for being able to direct him towards his enemies. After Jude had killed all those begging for death within the hospitals of Castle Doom, he agreed to travel with Mephisto to England, where Mephisto wished to unleash him against King Britain, in order to steal the Siege Perilous and regain his access to the Multiverse. While Jude figured out Mephisto's intentions, he declared it did not matter either way, as all he wanted was to bring his gift to humanity.[2]

Mephisto's plot ultimately failed, and as a compromise King Britain offered to grant Jude an island of his own, where those desiring his gift would be brought to him. While Jude was afraid of being alone and unable to do that which he must, he agreed to the offer.[3]
