History

Yah Chieng was among the most notorious wizards of the Age of Conan.[2] He resided in Paikang, in Khitai.

For many years, the magicians of the West witnessed as the effects of certain spells were weakened or even nullified. This culminated in the years about the rise of Conan of Cimmeria as king of Aquilonia. For months, Pelias the Sorcerer tried to pinpoint the origin of the phenomenon. Those plans were disturbed with Conan's rejuvenating of Aquilonia, and Yah Chieng consequently sent a winged demon to Tarantia, where he abducted Queen Zenobia, Conan's wife, in the hope that Conan would be killed by enemies along the way to rescue her.

Conan traveled to Khanyria, Khoraja, to seek the help of Pelias. Using the Mirror of Lazbekri, Pelias was able to spy on Yah Chieng, who quickly became aware of it and attempted to cast a deadly shining globe through the mirror. As Pelias was spellbound and unable to react, Conan intervened, shattering the mirror and saving them both. The event disclosed to Pelias that Yah Chieng was the source of the magical disturbance in the West. Unable to convince Conan from returning home, Pelias gave him the Ring of Rakhamon to help him in his quest.[3]

After Conan slew Yah Chieng, his greatest rival, Pra-Eun was able to ascend as the supreme master of the Scarlet Circle. Pra-Eun considered Conan as responsible for his ascension.[4]
