History
The eldest son of the Yang family, Yang Yi spent his entire life training to be the next Iron Fist and was insulted when the outsider Lin Lie was bestowed the chi of Shou-Lao the Undying after he washed ashore to K'un-Lun despite not going through the required trials to earn it. Yi and his friends confronted Lie and Mei Min after they returned from one of their excursions on Earth and denounced Lie of being unworthy of the Iron Fist. Yi accused Lie and his predecessors Danny Rand and Orson Randall for being outsiders who stole Shou-Lou's chi and mocked him for his injured hands, provoking Lie into fighting him. The two were stopped by Sparrow Yu-Ti, who reprimanded both of them. Despite his grudge, Yi assisted with Lie's training under Sparrow to overcome his handicap. Yi rushed to Lie's aid when the shards in Lie's flesh began radiating energy and left him in unbearable pain, signaling the destruction of Chiyou's first seal.[1] Yi chased after Lie when the shards' energy led him and Min back to the Mei family residence, where they encountered a demon minion of Chiyou, who had previously killed and disguised himself as Min's father and gravely wounded Min's mother. When the demon demanded the Sword of Fu's other remains sealed in the Mei household, Min and Lie attacked him, with Yi joining to protect the two. The demon was too powerful for three of them and subdued Yi and Min, threatening to kill them if Lie didn't hand him the shards. Lie stabbed his arms with the remaining shards, preventing the demon from stealing them and empowering him enough to save Yi and Min and mortally wound the demon. With his dying breaths, the demon told him that Lie's brother Lin Feng destroyed the seal in the first tomb for Chiyou, and that he would be waiting for him at the second tomb. Lie immediately took a portal from K'un-Lun to Gansu with Yi and Min accompanying him. Shortly after arriving, the three encountered Fat Cobra and the Bride of Nine Spiders.[2]
