The Ancient One was visited by Stephen Strange, who was looking for a cure after he was paralyzed in an accident meaning that he couldn't pursue his career as a doctor. The Ancient One told him to study under him and possibly find a cure through himself, but he wasn't satisfied. As he left, Strange encountered Baron Mordo, the Ancient One's student, and discovered that he planned to destroy his master and take his place. However, the Ancient One had figured out Mordo's plot and defeated him, taking Strange on as his new student, and they hoped to one day defeat Mordo altogether, and the evil Dormammu which he stood for.[1]
