I did my best and got into a prestigious school like my dad wanted but, I can't keep it all... I come here to escape reality. It's all I can do since I can't even make friends. But when climbing... even if it's just a little, I start to feel like Spidey.

History

Yu's discovery of Spider-Man's Suit

Yu Onomae skipped school and walked to his local gym to rock climb. As he did this he reflected on his life as an outcast. He idolized Spider-Man while he rock climbed, and when he left the gym he liked a picture of Spider-Man on his phone. While passing an alley, he witnessed his classmate Toby getting bullied by older students. After the bullies left, Yu attempted to apologize to Toby feeling guilty for not attempting to help him. Toby left telling Yu to not worry about it and that he didn't get his hopes up anyway. Yu walked into the alley and found Toby's school ID on the ground. While picking up the school ID he spotted something by a nearby dumpster. He picked it up and discovered that it was Spider-Man's Suit.

In his bedroom, Yu examined the Spider-Man Suit. When Yu's father heard him accidentally rip the closet doors with the webs, he reminded him that he should be studying for his test. Yu walked out of the house hoping to return it to Spider-Man but realized there is no way for him to know who Spider-Man is, hoping the only way to return it to Spider-Man was to pass by him. Out of desperation, he wore the suit and posed it at the nearest building. To his surprise, the outfit drew attention to people as they called for help with a burning building. Under the name of Spider-Man, reminded himself that he does not have super powers which made the people wondered why he was not doing anything. He ran down stairs which confused the people even more. Spider-Man realized how huge the fire is; then a woman desperately called for his help to rescue her child who was on the third floor. He climbed up the third floor using the suit's webs. He then found the child in the bathroom hiding behind the bathtub curtains. As Spider-Man grabbed onto him, the child clung to him as he escaped the building. Trying to escape the burning building, he was losing hope until the child yelled "Spidey", motivating Spider-Man's resilience.

Yu's first rescue of a woman's child with the help of the crowd

Spider-Man was carrying a young child out of the burning building. He noticed how high he was on the third floor. As he used his spider-webs to stick to the rail handling, the rail handling snapped which resulted him falling while holding tight of the child. To his surprise, people saved him with a trampoline net. Afterwards, the people cheered for Spider-Man as the boy returned to his mother who thanked Spider-Man. Spider-Man left the scene before the firemen arrived. Five days later, Yu learned and was pleased that his rescue for a young boy was showcased in media. Reading the news of "No Sign of Spider-Man After His Efforts During Large Fire 5 Days Ago", he wondered where the real Spider-Man is.

Yu was eating breakfast while watching John Jonah Jameson being interviewed live about his thoughts on the disappearance of Spider-Man television. His fathered then questioned him if he put something weird in the laundry. To avoid suspicion, he showed his pink-dyed white shirt and left the house. Outside now on the streets of New York, Yu checks his phone reflecting on a social media article of his first heroic act posing as Spider-Man. The article has the question "Where Did Spidey Go?". He comments on how the real Spidey goes through this kind of danger all the time. Yu remembers he plans to return Spider-Man suit, and ask the question in his mind "Where are you Spidey?". As Yu entered Bouldering Gym, he witnessed a crowd cheering Emma Pearson as he was also attracted to Emma. The crowd suggested to throw a party after Emma climbed the highest rock. Yu left the scene but the gym trainer questioned him. Yu stated that himself and Emma are from completely different worlds and left the gym. Emma walked out of the gym to start a conversation with Yu after the gym trainer talked to her about him. Despite trying to start a conversation with Yu wondering what was bothering him, Yu did not answer. She was interrupted by her group who invited her to the car leaving Yu behind. After the police car and a van bumped into each other, Yu witnessed an incident where the criminals threatened the drivers and the other passengers to leave the vehicle in order to keep Emma hostage while driving the car. Yu put on his Spider-Suit to intervene the scene.

Yu's second rescue with Emma from criminals

While Emma was threatened by the criminals with a gun, Spider-Man sabotaged the vehicle with the suit's web-shooters creating webs around the driver's windshield and broke the back window. Before the vehicle fell into the lake, Spider-Man rescued Emma out of the vehicle and moved to a safer spot with the use of the web-shooters. Emma thanked him but noticed the scratches on his arm. Yu left Emma afterwards. The next morning, Yu had a back injury. In his school, Yu was sorting out his locker. Dropping his items, he struggled to pick them up, worried that Emma will see him limping. Yu thanked Emma after she picked his items up for him; Emma and Yu finished with a short conversation. As Emma walked away, she looked back and recognized the scratches that were similar to Spider-Man's much to Yu's surprise.

Has Emma discovered Spider-Man's secret identity!?

Emma then examined the events of Bouldering Gym understanding why Yu missed school. Yu tried to hide his secret identity by claiming he fell and got the scratches. Emma tricked Yu into thinking she believed him but looked into his bag to find out he has the Spider-Man Suit. During their next class where they had a test, Yu could not focus on his test after worrying about Emma exposing his secret identity online. Afterwards, Yu had bad test results.

Yu invited to parties

Emma spotted Yu sulking under the tree and told him that she will not tell anyone as long as he did as she said. Emma commanded worried Yu into a classroom filling Yu with many questions only for Emma to tell him she was teasing him and just wanted to repay him for saving her life. Yu gave Emma the suit and she stitched it much to his joy. Emma then revealed to Yu that everyone told her that "you don't seem like the type" and stuff similar to their sayings. She told Yu that she is going to support him. Knowing he has a remedial exam coming up, she was willing to help him with his tests. Yu and Emma started studying together after school. After Yu broke out of the remedial test, Emma congratulated him. Making new friends in school, they invited him over to parties. However, on of his classmates showed the news about Screwball threatening Spider-Man that lots of people will be dead if he does not arrive. Yu put on the Spider-Man suit to intervene the scene once again.

Spider-Man and Screwball showdown

As Spider-Man went face to face with Screwball, she challenged him on live to grab the Spider-Man plush from her before two hours pass by. Spider-Man grew tired of chasing her but realized he could use the web-shooters to his advantage. While Screwball was distracted, Spider-Man tried taking the plush with his spider-webs which resulted failed attempts. Looking up Screwball on his phone, he learnt she was at Whiz Station. Noticing her guard was down, he finally took the plush with the spider-webs much to her surprise. Unfortunately, he found out nothing harmful was in it. With twenty minutes left, he chased after her riding on top of a vehicle. Despite Spider-Man having doubts on his own abilities, people on social media rooted for him. Spider-Man finally caught up to Screwball, only for her to reveal she was scheming to boost her channel numbers and for attention much to the media and his disgust.

After Silk stuck her to the building with her webs, Emma reassured Yu to not let her scheme get to him asking him if he was hurt. Yu was pleased when he read the news, "Spider-Man Shuts Down Screwball's Stream" but unaware of Silk sneaked into his room.

Yu meets Silk

Silk snatched the suit away from Yu questioning him. After, Silk saw a portrait of Spider-Man and Yu's Marvel collection she let him talk about the incident with Screwball. After Yu explained the story about the suit, Silk complimented him as his contribution with using the suit had covered up Peter Parker's disappearance. Silk introduced herself to Yu and they joined forces. Silk told the story about her bond with Spider-Man and his disappearance. Silk returned to suit telling him the city needed a new Spider-Man despite being fake in order to prevent his true identity being slipped. Yu and Silk shared contact details before she left his room. Emma invited Yu to the gym for the next day. Emma and Yu practiced bouldering at the Bouldering Gym chatting about Screwball.

Emma invited Yu over to her messy room to confess to him that she liked Sarah but she was afraid nobody would accept her. With the help of her participation of rock climbing and her thoughts of Yu being cool, she told him she more courage to tell Sarah she liked her. When she asked Yu to become her best friend, he agreed. While walking on the streets, he thought about how his heart felt broken after her love confession to Sarah but was pleased to become her best friend. Silk texted to Yu that she was able to find Spider-Man and rushed to her given location. Bringing an injured Silk out of the sewers, Silk told him to run. Yu saw Venom in action outside the building. Despite the police's attempts to shoot Venom, he was invulnerable to the bullets but Yu saved the people, preventing their injuries. Showing up with his Spider-Man suit, he remembered when Silk told him that he would get himself killed when he was right in front of Venom.

Venom vs. Spider-Man

Spider-Man's attempts on Venom were useless. As Venom got closer to Spider-Man, it could not bring itself to kill him which he suspected someone was underneath Venom. Venom regained its senses and chased after Spider-Man. He then remembered Silk's words, "with great power comes with great responsibility" and realized the person trapped inside Venom is the real Spider-Man. However, he got himself injured along with the suit. He took note of the venom reacting to the ringing bell and took the opportunity to ring the bell in order to free Peter Parker out of Venom. After partially seeing Peter's face, Spider-Man took off his mask to reveal his identity as Yu to comfort Peter. Peter broke out free from Venom and they both faced off against Mysterio.

Mysterio introduced himself as Quentin Beck, a person who loved movies believing that the outlaw would always become the hero, but learnt there are no chances of a stuntman becoming a star. He passion working behind the scenes became envy that he wanted to take down Spider-Man. Mysterio created holograms of Mary Jane Watson to distract the Spider-Men.

There are two Spider-Men!!

Mysterio then summoned holograms the New York vigilantes distracting Peter and Yu. After Peter took down Mysterio, Mysterio failed his attempt to kill Yu with the Spider-Man hologram only for the real Spider-Man to stop the bullet. Both of them tied Mysterio to the wall afterwards.

Yu and Emma

Shortly after the defeat of Quentin Beck, they became known to the news. Peter and Yu moved into the top of a skyscraper. Yu apologized to him for borrowing the suit which lead the his suit being damaged and ended up with a weird video with Screwball. Peter was confused but he told him that Peter was not sure if he was doing the right thing letting Yu know he also "got lost and confused from time to time". Regardless, he was glad Yu found his suit which made Peter realize that he cannot run away from who he is by throwing away his suit. Peter revealed his true identity to Yu and told him he is a hero. They kept the secret between them. After Yu returned the suit to Spider-Man, Yu returned to his normal life. However, Yu has not been able to show up to school after his true identity went viral. He still wondered if Emma still thought of Yu as her best friend. Yu witnessed Emma scramming away the vandalizers after they made a graffiti of "fake" Spider-Man. Yu went out of his house to help clean the graffiti with Emma. Spider-Man took notice to Silk how Yu became more confident in himself since their meeting.

Personality

Yu Onomae describes himself as an outcast. He doesn't view himself as a normal high-schooler as he also struggles making friends and talking to different as seen when Emma tried starting a conversation with Yu who did not respond to her. He likes Spider-Man and sees him as a kind of role model. However, his personality changed after Emma found out Yu was Spider-Man. She was willing to help him making him into a completely different person as he was able to make new friends with people in school.

After the events of Quentin Beck, Peter took notice of how Yu became more confident in himself since their meeting.
