During the Age of Conan circa 10,000 BC, the Yuetshi were a tribe and people that lived in villages in the Akrim Valley, southeast of the Vilayet Sea.[2] Those villages included Djerda.[8]
In the past, the Yuetshi were the victims of vampire-like Brylukas on the continent,[5] and of the eldritch god Khosatral Khel on the island and city of Dagonia, in the Vilayet.[1]
History
Early years[]
The Yuetshi were among the peoples (along with the Xuthalans, and the Xuchotlans) that migrated from central or far east, presumably pushed westward by the East-folk.[9]
The ancestors of the Yuetshi were preyed upon by an ancient, not human, people, the Brylukas, until a priest of the Yuetshi cast a great spell that confined them to the tombs of their city which was connected by a stairway and tunnel to Akrim Valley, where the Yuetshi lived.[5]
A brutish people, they stormed the shore of the island and city of Dagonia, but were defeated by Dagonia's god and ruler Khosatral Khel's sorcery. Enslaved, they served as sacrifices at the altars for nearly a generation.
One day, the Yuetshi priest left to far valley and returned. Upon his return, the Yuetshi slaves revolted as the priest wieldedd a knife forged of a meteor, before which Khosatral Khel's magic was ineffective. The priest defeated Khosatral Khel but did not slew him, instead laying the mystic knife across Khel's chest, rendering hul senless and unmoving. Thus, the priest could hold the threat of reviving him to ensure his own subjects' loyalty.
Over the ages, Dagonia declined and eventually fell into ruin.[1] The Yuetshi had seemingly fled the city by then.
At some point, Maheeva was imprisoned within his fortress by a Yuetshi's socerer's dark malediction.[7]
Age of Conan[]
Years later, circa 10,000 BC, a Yuetshi fisherman went on Xapur the Fortified (as was now known Dagonia), and removed the knife from Khosatral Khel's chest, breaking the spell. The god killed the fisherman, then restored his city and its inhabitants using necromancy.[1]
Later, the blonde Zarmi styled herself as a messiah and created an alliance of rebels involving Afghulis, Irakzai, Yuetshi, Zuagirs, and other tribes (nearly a score of tribes in total) under her lead and against Turan, attacking a Turanian outpost on the southern shore of the Vilayet and slaughtering its garrison. In reaction, King Yezdigerd ordered General Orne'q to assemble troops for the Turanian army from Turan's carceral population. Orbe'q came to know (possibly through intel leaked on purpose) that the rebels had set camp in the valley east of the Rmyra Pass. Captain Numallah was ordered to go through the Pass with a battalion, despite his protest, given it was an obvious ambush spot. The rebels slaughtered half of the battalion, and Orbe'q put the blame on Numallah who was executed.[3]
