History

Origin[]

Zephyr was working as a wench in a tavern in an undisclosed location when she was recruited by the Elementals to become their resident air elemental.[5]

The Elementals were supposedly cast out of their own universe millennia ago, arriving on Earth before Atlantis was even built. Using their mastery of the elements, these four beings created a kingdom that was unopposed.[1] Together, the Elementals ruled Earth,[6] millennia before the Asgardians did.[4] At the time, Zephyr's only concern was power.[6]

Eventually, the Elementals tried to extend their rule into the land that would be known as Egypt. There, a young warrior named Dann and a wizard named Garret joined their two souls to arcane magics and created the Ruby Scarab. In the hands of Dann, this magical item sapped the powers of the Elementals and banished them to another universe.[1] From the, Zephyr's only desire was to regain her lost power.[6]

Search for the Ruby Scarab[]

A thousand years ago, searching for the Ruby Scarab to restore her pantheon, Zephyr heard of Thor possessing a ruby artifact.[4] Acting as a wench, she approached him,[2] only to discover the artifact was simply a Seduction Gem. She stole it anyway, for the sake of it. Their confrontation led them to a short but Earth-shattering passion.[4]

Quitting the Elementals[]

When her plan to use the Living Mummy to obtain the Ruby Scarab failed, the other three Elementals expelled her from their ranks. She then joined forces with the adventurers Olddann and the Asp, as well as Alexi Skarab, in defeating her former partners the Elementals.[7]

Zephyr later resurfaced on Earth in Saracen Cay, alongside Olddann and the Asp, but her former allies attacked them.[8] They were captured by the Elementals, and she was tortured, to force the others to reveal the location of the Ruby Scarab.[9]

After the Elementals finally returned, Zephyr realized that her want for power was dangerous, and left the Elementals after fighting against them.[6]

Collector[]

Zephyr later tried to serve more noble purposes.[6] Unfortunately, Taneleer Tivan, the Collector, who had already captured the other Elementals, trapped her. However, she joined forces with him,[10][6] as he fell in love with her.[6]

She appeared (as something close to an astral form) to Thor during a massive storm.[2]

Soon afterwards, when Thor came to alarm the Collector about the arrival of Ego, the Collector showed Thor that he held its brother Alter Ego as part of his collection in his Gallery of Dodecahedra (within a pocket universe). Zephyr had him trapped there to sustain the living planet.[10]

Witnessing Thor's escape, his liberation of Alter Ego and refusing to allow either it or its brother Ego to die in a fratricidal fight (Alter Ego wanting to preserve its uniqueness), Zephyr soon recalled what it was like to be driven by an ideal, and deserted Tivan's side to save Thor who had been trapped (on purpose) on Alter Ego's surface trying to stop it, but both of them ended up trapped in the Living Planet's mouth.[6]

There, Thor exposed her to his plan of letting himself get swallowed, in order to knock both Alter Ego (and Ego) unconscious from an internal blow. Attacking Alter Ego's core, both gods were blasted.[6] They were thrown into an hallucination while Alter Ego gained sustenance from their energies. Causing a storm in their hallucination, Zephyr was expelled from Alter Ego only to discover a paranoid Collector who was consumed with jealousy of her interactions with Thor, and who then threw her into another Dodecahedron containing a black hole.[11]

She was sent six hundred years in the past at the other side of the universe. During that six hundred year-long journey to rejoin Thor, she had many adventures and became closer to Thor's values. As Thor managed to calm Alter Ego (only for it to be almost destroyed in self-defense by Ego), she returned, offering Ego her assistance, and helped recreate Alter Ego as its moon.[11]
