History

Zomber was a member of the Nazis who was active during World War II. By the fall of 1943 he and his minions were operating out of a secret hideout beneath a mountain in Lake City. With powerful electromagnets and a spy working as an air traffic controller at the local airport they caused many planes in the area to crash.

After the fourth such crash, the United States Senate created a commission to investigate the crashes and had the poor judgement of sending them by plane to Lake City. Along with the government came the Human Torch and Toro who also took an interest in the mystery. When Zomber and his men attempted to crash the plane, the Torch and Toro saved it from crashing by using their flames to create a powerful updraft that kept the plane in the air until it could fly out of the magnet;s range. Finding the magnets protruding out of the ground in the woods, the two heroes melted through the ground into the Nazi base, clashing with Zomber and his men. Zomber kept the two heroes on the defense by using his magnets to keep a step ahead of the heroes. When he attempted to keep them at bay with a cannon that fired flame retarding fluids, the heroes promptly melted it and captured Zomber and his men.

Taking them to the airport, they also apprehended the accomplice in air traffic control. As Zomber and his men were being handed over to the authorities, Zomber broke free and made a run to a nearby auto-gyro to escape. The Torch and Toro were forced to hurl fireballs at the plane, causing an explosion that killed Zomber.[1]
