Synopsis for "Saints and Sinners"
The Alcalde is getting ready to whip a citizen, and he accuses him of stealing his wagon. The citizen’s story was he was just moving it to make room. Victoria Escalante and Alejandro de la Vega are defending the citizen and the Alcalde asked if anybody would take his place on All Saints’ Day, as he did not really believe in any of that. But as he was about to flog him, Zorro grab the whip. The Lancers were coming to help the Arcade. He says don’t shoot you might hit me. Victoria’s wondering why Zorro didn’t speak to her, as he left without a word. Back as his Hacienda, where he spoke with Felipe, he states he didn’t speak because of the cold he had, and he didn’t want to reveal the secret identity as Don Diego being Zorro.
He begins to talk to himself and despairs about the increasing iniquity of the Alcalde, as well as there are other ever increasing ruffians. He wonders if he’s doing any good as Zorro. He even recalls how Victoria was shot, helping Zorro, and almost died, and his instructor Sir Edmundthat taught him his sword fighting skill was killed as well. In fact, Sir Edmund was the only other person that had figured out Zorro's identity. At that time, a person named Fernando begins to talk with him, and quite nonchalantly mentions that Don Diego is Zorro, and he knows the secret entrance to his laboratory. He discusses to him how important Zorro would be, and he departs, almost vanishes off into the desert horizon.
A man riding by horse back outside of Don Diego‘s Hacienda, asks him how far to Los Angeles and Victoria Escalante is his for the night. With that being done, Diego goes to change into Zorro, but his attire has gone as well as his trusty steed, Toronado. He still finds Esperanza, a family horse that he takes to Los Angeles. As he arrived into Los Angeles, everything has changed. There is a large sign with the Alcalde’s name at the entrance of the Pueblo. Mendoza is no longer in the military, Victoria Escalante, is more of a prostitute than a tavern owner, and the Alcalde is more of a tyrant than ever, and his father Alejandro was killed, being hanged, which was something that Zorro had interrupted. Felipe had been kidnapped and eventually imprisoned. Since Zorro was no longer around, everybody’s life situation had changed. Zorro is arrested because of his resistance in a fight he had with the man who had proposition Victoria . He was not supposed to even be in the Pueblo, and consequently was imprisoned.
Zorro suspects it’s a dream, but Fernando tells him no this is what it would be like if there was no Zorro. Fernando disappears, and the cell door is left open, and Don Diego returns to his Hacienda and finds his Zorro attire. He comes back as the worst nightmare for the Alcalde and tells him that he “owns his soul” and will be watching his every step. He gives him a good beating up. It was a nice comprehensive review of the events in Zorro’s life and the importance of All Saints Day, in remembering the Saints. It appeared that Fernando was in the tavern and then he disappeared, perhaps, till the next All Saints day.
