Synopsis for ""Sanctuary""
Some bounty hunters are looking for an individual as the story opens, and as they have interaction with some other Bandito’s. They say they are not looking for Zorro, so they wonder who it could be. Mendoza meets an English traveler outside of Los Angeles named Sir Edmund Kendall, and is of course trying to tax him. He refuses to pay and Mendoza states the “death tax is even more.” At that time, Don Diego arrives, and immediately recognizes Edmund as a champion swordsman and his master teacher while in Spain. In the end Don Diego eventually pays the tax for him.
Edmund leaves with Victoria Escalante and Don Diego de la Vega. He then escorts Edmond to his Villa where his dad Alejandro is. As they are alone Don Diego explained to him that he would like to keep his fencing skills secret from the populace as it would pull a price on his head. Edmund and Don Diego engage in some fencing practice, and Edmund realizes his star pupil had not lost his skill at all, but even had enhanced his abilities. At this time, the two bountyhunters take some shots at sir Edmund, but they miss him. As they ride in Don Diego and Edmond quickly take care of them with Edmund killing Figueroa, but Don Diego did not see the reason to kill the other assailant Tapiador. He made his escape, and Don Diego figured he would quickly find the Alcalde because of a sizable bounty.
As predicted he immediately is seen visiting with the Alcalde, and the 5000 peso bounty certainly caught the interest and avarice of the Alcalde. Alcalde then suggests a party to be thrown for Sir Edmund, and invite the De la Vega family. Don Diego was suspicious of this, yet Sir Edmund, saw no reason to suspect him. Even though, Sir Edmund had told Dan Diego to always expect the unexpected in previous training, and in their fencing match. As they come to the party, Tapiador takes a sniper shot with a rifle severely wounding Sir Edmund.
Dan Diego takes the wagon and horses to the church for sanctuary. As the Alcalde arrives, he wants to immediately take him hostage, but Mendoza reminds him of the sanctuary of the church. Dan Diego, with foresight, had packed his Zorro costume, and made ready for the escape of Sir Edmund in front of the Alcalde and his men. As they ride off and are safe, Sir Edmund says not to bother the doctor as he feels his life ending. As he dies, he states that his secret of Don Diego being Zorro is safe. He gave him the knife to remind him to expect the unexpected.
